Position Bio

Cory Bruening 		Vice President & Parent Representative

Cory is the founder and owner of a music recording production studio in Sedona.  His training in performing arts began in High School and he holds a degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Arizona.  He is also involved with a family owned and operated motel in Cottonwood.  Cory has been an active parent volunteer at Desert Star School and joined the Board in September 2011.  

Yvan Rochon 		Treasurer

Yvan is founder and President of Herbal Vitality Inc., a Sedona based business devoted to the production and wholesale distribution of herbal medicinal products nation-wide.   He holds a PhD in Medicine from McGill University and has done extensive research and publishing in the medical field.  Yvan is the parent of a Desert Star School graduate and has served on the Board since the opening of the school in 2006 as Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer.  He is the current Charter holder for the School.

Jennifer Warren 		President

Jennifer has more than 20 years of experience in the education field, both in the United States and abroad.  She has taught in Waldorf Schools in Arizona and New Mexico.  She has been associated with Desert Star School as a specialty teacher, parent and volunteer, and has served on the Board since June 2010.  Jennifer is presently a college and career counselor at a Sedona area school.  Jennifer brings a multi-cultural dimension to the School, drawn from living, working and studying in a variety of countries.  She is a graduate of Middlebury College and holds teaching certifications.

Tomas Winn 		Board member

Tomas supported the development of Desert Star School’s charter application and has served on the Board since the founding of the school in 2006   He has held the Board Officer positions of Vice President and, most recently, President. Tomas is a certified therapist and counselor, specializing in music therapy.   He has prior experience as a builder and remodeling contractor and business owner.  Tomas holds degrees in therapy and counseling from Willamette University and Portland State University.

Jennifer Young 		Secretary & Asst Treasurer

 Jennifer Young is a resident of Sedona since 2005 and worked as Desert Star's Business Manager from September 2008 to October 2010.  She is retired from a 26 year career in Corporate management in the international airline industry and currently contributes Business and leadership experience to the work of non-profit organizations in the VerdeValley, at both volunteer and governing board levels.  Jennifer has extensive work background in operational management, strategy and planning, financial and business analysis, budgets, contract negotiation and project management, as well as experience in government affairs and human resource fields and service on corporate boards.  She has an in-depth knowledge of the business operations of DesertStarCommunitySchool and working relationships with the School's financial and business partners.  Jennifer's goals for service on the Desert Star Board during the next two years include development of a comprehensive five year strategic plan, enhancement of Board governance processes and communication, and support of projects related to School business and administrative needs.Jennifer Young is a resident of Sedona since Business.

Pam Bruehl 		Board Member- Faculty Representative

Pam has worked in Waldorf education for more than 20 years, teaching at schools in Massachusetts, Oregon and Arizona.  She is in her 4th year with Desert Star School, presently teaching First Grade.  Pam is a graduate of Prescott College and holds Waldorf and other teaching certifications.
